My Chinese name
My name in Chinese was given to me by my grandfather. He explained that the Chinese had a superstition that if you wrote just your name alone it would be like ‘honoring the dead’. Therefore, they would write a couplet or poem along with the characters for your name. Mine is shown to the left. Here is the translation:
“Bic Won” - literally “Solitary Cloud” Couplet translation: “A clear blue sky as if it had just been washed. When the cloud passes you can see the moon. Composed by maternal Grandfather.”
